DESCRIPTION OF SNACK: Hold onto your hats, Munchies Kids Mix is like a Frito Lay Snack Summit in a lime-green bag:

  • Mini-Doritos Nacho Cheesier Flavor Tortilla Chips
  • Cap'N Crunch Cereal
  • Mini Rold Gold Classic Tiny Twists Pretzels
  • SmartFood Reduced Fat White Cheddar Cheese Flavored Popcorn
  • Candy-Coated Chocolate Pieces

SSI RATING (SNACK SATISFACTION INDEX - 1-10):
5.2 for adults, 9.0 for kids

UPSIDE Regardless of age, pretty much everyone is guaranteed to find something in here he or she likes, and many will find a couple. I realized how much I enjoy SmartFood's White Cheddar popcorn, for instance. Really great.

Looking at it from a child's point of view, Munchies Kids Mix is like heaven. The adults took the day off at the Frito Lay snack factory, and rebel kids broke in and dumped everything they could find into one package. If Nickelodeon was a snack, this would be it.

DOWNSIDE:

If you're not a kid, this mega-mix is a bit much. The mini-Doritos, popcorn and pretzels together work wonders, but then you've got Cap'N Crunch sailing in there and hijacking your taste buds with his evil sugar sword. The chocolate pieces weren't great, either... thankfully, there weren't many of them. Perhaps 25 in the entire bag - and this is a big package. (20 of the 25 chocolate pieces were hiding out in the bottom of the bag.) Basically, this is a snack kids want because their folks won't be asking them to share.

PACKAGING:

Keeping in mind this is the "Kids Mix," I think the graphic designer did well in his/her color choices and layout. Okay, so the green bowl holding the snacks looks like it's something you'd have found on the set of I Dream of Jeannie, but it goes well with the rest of the package design.

Especially nice are the three little icon characters at top. Sure, they feel very inspired by the Aqua Teen Hunger Force (specifically, Frylock), but they do add a bit of fun to the one-word "Munchies" atop the bag.

DO YOU RECOMMEND THIS SNACK? (YES/NO - EXPLAIN):

Yes, if you're a kid. Or an adult who loves the sweet with your salty. I normally do (Hawaiian Pizza!), but this was too much for me. That said, you may want to pick up a bag and get a taste for a number of the Frito Lay brands. Like a sample taste test, or a snack convention. Then go out and buy an entire bag of the snack you like most. In my case, it was the popcorn. Followed closely by the Doritos. The chocolate pieces (of what?) finished ahead only of Cap'N Crunch, which finished behind bile.

ARE THERE OTHER TYPES OF MUNCHIES I CAN TRY?

You betcha'. Six in total. I've purchased the Classic Mix version, but may not get around to reviewing it for a few months. I'm scraping the taste of Cap'N Crunch off my tongue at the moment.
